Videos more videos Biography Nicole Scherzinger is an American pop singer best known as the lead performer for the Pussycat Dolls. Nicole Elikolani Prescovia Scherzinger was born on June 29, 1978 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father is Filipino and her mother is of Hawaiian and Russian descent. Entertainment is in her blood-her mother, Rosemary, was a professional hula dancer, and her grandmother, Tutu was a Mariachi singer. Nicole's family shifted to Louisville, Kentucky when she was just six. She attended performing arts schools. When she was 14, she took part in her first professional play at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. She was the first runner-up at the 1996 Kentucky State Fair's Coca-Cola Talent Classic contest. Nicole went on to do her graduation from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, where she majored in Theater and minored in Dance. She performed in college plays portraying Velma Kelly in Chicago and Julie LaVerne in Show Boat. She supported herself by modeling in local ad campaigns. In 1999, she left her studies to sing for the band, Days of the New and tour with them. In 2000, Nicole quit the band and started working on her own music. In 2001, she got her first break when she took part in the talent hunt series Popstars. She was one of the winners who became part of the girl band, Eden's Crush. Their self-titled debut album released in 2001 was a hit and the single Get Over Yourself topped the Billboard's singles chart. However, Nicole's luck didn't last and the group had to break up in about a year when their record company, London Sire, shut down. After Eden's Crush, Nicole tried her hand at acting and appeared in films Love Don't Cost a Thing (2003) and Chasing Papi (2003). In 2003, she had her first solo release, a cover version of Breakfast in Bed on the soundtrack to 50 First Dates. She used the pseudonym, Nicole Kea. The song was produced by her then boyfriend, Nick Hexum-the lead singer of 311. In 2003, Nicole heard that the Pussycat Dolls dance group was holding auditions to launch an all female pop group. She landed the spot of the lead singer and took her first step towards being a big star. In 2005, the Pussycat Dolls released their first single, Don't Cha, which became an instant hit and gave Nicole worldwide recognition. The group went on to give hit after hit including Stickwitu, Beep, and Buttons. The contribution of Nicole in the success of the Pussycat Dolls cannot be overlooked-Nicole sang nearly all the lead and backing vocals on the Pussycat Dolls album. Nicole has proven beyond doubt her talent for singing and performing. This talent coupled with her exotic looks has brought her success and a huge number of fans. She is bound to make it bigger.
